Healthy vision is essential for a child’s growth, learning, and confidence – and early eye care can make all the difference.
At Stratford Eyecare Associates, our Pediatric Eye Exams are designed to give your child a comfortable, thorough evaluation of their visual health and development. Using gentle techniques and age-appropriate testing, we help ensure your child’s eyes are seeing clearly and functioning well at every stage.
What to Expect During a Pediatric Eye Exam
Children’s eyes aren’t just “smaller versions” of adult eyes – they are actively developing, and their visual systems are constantly learning and adapting. During a pediatric eye exam, our doctors will:
-
Review your child’s vision history and milestones
-
Assess visual acuity and focusing skills in a kid-friendly way
-
Evaluate eye alignment, tracking, and coordination
-
Screen for common conditions such as amblyopia (lazy eye), strabismus (crossed eyes), and refractive errors (nearsightedness, farsightedness, astigmatism)
-
Check for eye health issues that can affect learning and development
Our team creates a relaxed and supportive environment to help children feel at ease, making their visit positive – even fun!
Why Pediatric Eye Exams Matter
Vision plays a critical role in how children learn, communicate, and interact with the world. Many visual issues can go unnoticed because kids often assume others see the same way they do. Early eye exams help:
-
Detect vision problems before they impact school performance
-
Identify developing eye conditions when treatment is most effective
-
Support visual development at every stage of childhood
Regular pediatric eye exams are more than just “seeing 20/20” – they help ensure your child’s visual system is developing in a healthy way.
Myopia Management for Children
In addition to pediatric eye exams, we also offer Myopia Management for children. Myopia (nearsightedness) is becoming increasingly common in children – and fast progression can raise the risk of serious eye conditions later in life. We offer myopia management using specialized glasses and contact lenses designed to slow progression. Early intervention and regular monitoring help protect your child’s long-term eye health and vision development.
When Should Your Child Be Tested?
Children should have their eyes examined starting in infancy and continue regularly throughout childhood. We recommend scheduling pediatric eye exams:
-
Before starting school, to establish a visual baseline
-
Every 1–2 years after age 3
-
Whenever vision concerns arise, such as squinting, eye rubbing, headaches, or difficulty reading
If your child is due for an eye exam or has been showing signs of vision challenges, now is a great time to schedule.
